Faded
2025

Animated Short

  • Trigger warning: ⚠️ substance abuse
For this animated short, I aimed to explore themes of substance abuse and dissociation. The main character is caught in a cyclical struggle with depression, trapped in a sense of unreality as she sits in the darkness of her room, surrounded by the physical manifestations of her mental state. The piece reflects how overwhelming and consuming these cycles can become.

This project also carries a personal significance. I lost two of my closest friends this year, and I know they would have deeply connected with this work. While navigating my own mental health challenges, I felt compelled to create a piece that begins to address the complexities of substance abuse and emotional struggle as a form of expression and as a way to honor their memory.

Coconut Oil
2024

Animation Short

  • In this animation, I revisit a deeply cherished memory from my childhood: the tradition of having my hair oiled. This weekly ritual, lovingly performed by my mama, holds profound cultural and personal significance. It is more than just a practice—it’s a moment of connection, care, and heritage that binds generations in South Asian families.

Through this piece, I aim to capture the sensory nostalgia of this experience—the soothing touch of oil, the rhythmic motions of braiding, and the quiet intimacy of these moments. It is a tribute to the resilience of cultural practices that transcend time, adapting and thriving in the diaspora.

By portraying this tradition, I celebrate the beauty of rituals passed down from generation to generation. This animation is an invitation to reflect on how small, intimate acts carry the weight of cultural identity, belonging, and love.
