Ceramic and Moss

  • Selene (the moon goddess)
    For this project, I planned to create a transformed cat-like creature that embodies protection and spiritual guidance. Cats are often linked to independence, mystery, and quiet observation, so I selected a cat as the base animal. I will modify its appearance by giving it multiple eyes, moon-inspired details, and antlers to give it a more mystical and otherworldly look. The multiple eyes will symbolize heightened awareness and the ability to watch over and protect others from all directions. This feature represents vigilance and the idea that the creature can see what others cannot. The moon-inspired elements, such as glowing markings or moon phases on its body, will symbolize guidance in darkness and the connection between the night, dreams, and spirituality. The antlers will add a sense of ancient wisdom and strength while tying the creature to nature. I also want to add mushrooms to show the connection to nature. Overall, these modifications will transform the animal from a normal cat into a mystical guardian, representing protection, awareness, and spiritual guidance during dark times.

  • Each planter represents a different emotional expression inspired by classic clown characters: happy, sad, and angry. The concept draws from the theatrical structure of circus performances and the long history of clowns expressing exaggerated emotions. By presenting the three planters together as a set, the piece explores how emotion can shift dramatically while still belonging to the same character type. Each planter will be thrown to create a consistent base form. After throwing the pots, I used handbuilding to sculpt facial features directly onto the surfaces. These sculpted elements will give each planter a unique personality that clearly communicates its emotion. The happy planter will have a smiling expression and playful details, the sad planter will have drooping features and a melancholic look, and the angry planter will feature sharper shapes and exaggerated tension in the face.
