Yarah is a resilient young Pakistani princess who embodies the hero archetype, as she embarks on a journey to protect her kingdom and face challenges along the way. She possesses courage, resilience, and a sense of justice, fighting against oppression and manipulation. Although she also has strong elements of the rebel archetype, she challenges societal norms that limit women’s roles in leadership. She refuses to let Raza’s corruption destroy everything her family has built.

My goal was to make Pakistani characters you don’t typically see in media. Growing up I never had that representation other kids did and I feel it’s important as an artist to create that representation. For this class we had to take a story that has already been done and make it our own. I was heavily inspired by the story Aladdin because Jasmine was the one princess that I saw myself in regardless of her terrible misrepresentation. My take on the story is called Yarah.

Raza is our antagonist and embodies the classic vizier archetype. He serves as an advisor for the kingdom, but secretly is working against them seeking the throne. He is arrogant and overconfident, and sees himself as the smartest person in any room and looks down on those who he considers weak or naive. He isn’t a villain who relies on cheer force. He’s intelligent, manipulative, and always three steps ahead. His schemes are in intricate, making him a formidable opponent for Yarah. Raza’s manipulative nature and cold demeanor, isolate him and make it difficult for him to form any true alliances although he does meet the jinn and then get his three wishes.

My Nana heavily inspires Nana (grandpa). He is a wise man who has learned many lessons throughout his life. He helps Sana understand what his world was like before he passed. They are able to go on an adventure through Karachi thanks to the magic suitcase
