Drawing Pakistan: A Visual Guide to Authentic Representation

$45.00

Editorial-style art book that celebrates South Asian, specifically Pakistani, representation in art. I want this book to serve as both a creative and educational guide for artists who are endeavoring to depict South Asian characters with authenticity and care. It highlights the beauty and depth of our culture through clothing, hairstyles, jewelry, and tradition, while showing how these details connect to history and identity.

This project comes from my own experience growing up, rarely seeing people who looked like me in the media. Through research and visual exploration, I’ve studied how cultural accuracy can coexist with artistic expression. My book blends factual information with design, imagery, and illustration to make learning about representation feel inspiring. Each chapter focuses on one cultural element, like hair or adornment, paired with visual references that show how these traditions can be reimagined in different art styles.

I chose this format because education and creativity are closely intertwined. I want this work to make cultural research more approachable, which invites curiosity and appreciation. At its core, this project is about visibility, pride, and the importance of telling our stories in ways that feel true to who we are. Representation is important, and I want to create the representation I didn’t have growing up.
